★ ★ ★ ★ ★ お寺の壁の地獄と極楽の絵が圧巻です。特に地獄絵は小さい頃はとても怖かった。悪いことをすると死んだ後こうなると言い聞かされて来ました。
The hell of the temple walls and pictures of paradise are the best part. Hell paintings were especially scary when I was small. I have been told that if I do bad things, this will happen after I die.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 曹洞宗の仏教寺院で傳智山 西念寺と云います。
開山は応永32年(1425年)頃、仙台・新寺小路の松音寺の三世皇山宗詮大和尚と伝えられており、約600年の歴史が有ります。
西念寺と言う名称の由来からすると、昔は浄土宗系の寺ではなかったかと思われるが、記録が失われ確固たる証拠はない。
ご本尊には釈迦牟尼佛が安置され、文珠菩薩と普賢菩薩を従えている。
寺の宝として毘沙門天（室町時代）と同時代の妙鉢（みょうはち）が有ると寺の沿革に記して有ります。
因みに妙鉢は仏を讃えるお寺のシンバルです。
It is a Buddhist temple of the Soto sect and is called Denchizan Nishinenji.
It is said that the mountain was opened around Oei 32 (1425), and it is said to be Yamato Osho, the third generation of Shoonji Temple in Shintera-koji, Sendai, and has a history of about 600 years.
From the origin of the name Nishinenji, it seems that it was a temple of the Jodo sect in the past, but the record has been lost and there is no solid evidence.
Shaka Nyorai is enshrined in the principal image, and is accompanied by Manjushri and Samantabhadra.
It is stated in the history of the temple that there is a Myohachi of the same period as Bishamonten (Muromachi period) as a treasure of the temple.
By the way, Myohachi is a cymbal of a temple that praises the Buddha.
