★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best place for Wagashi making experience. you make 4 different kinds, and the shapes and flavors change monthly. While the theacher doesn't speak English, there is a sheet in English with the ingredients and has half of what he says written down. Instructions for making are done with a visual example so it is easy to follow. Tea at the end of the experience is also good. It is worth noting than moste of the decrative pieces in glass boxes are also made from candy. Also plenty of tasty sweets available for sale.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We took a confectionary class here. Though the teacher did not speak English, he showed us step by step so we were able to follow along just fine. He came around the table and gave us individual help when we needed it. He was pleasant and patient. We made 4 kinds of sweets. They served tea for us to drink while we ate the last sweet. We tried the other ones later and they were equally delicious. It was a fun experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stopped here as part of a walking tour. So glad we found this place. It had the best sweets.
It was beautifully setup. The master chef was very delighted to show his creations of handcrafted sweets. It was a great experience and would love to visit again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I want to visit yearly and learn how to make sweets! I interpreted the Wagashi Tsukuri Class for my family as they only speak English.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Japanese cookie making class is 2,160 yen for individual. Only Japanese language is available, though you could understand. It takes about an hour. After the class, you will be received one cup of tea and could enjoy taste of your hand-made-cookies.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fun activity for the morning before going out for the day - making japanese wagashi sweets.
The teacher speaks little English, though it was still fine.
Friendly teacher and staff. Fun times!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our hotel recommended this activity to my wife and me on a rainy day in Kyoto. This turned out to be a really great treat (pun intended). The chef/teacher didn't speak much English, but it was relatively straight-forward to follow along with the chef's actions, and the printed instructions (in English). It was really fun to mold little balls of sugar into beautiful, colorful confectionery creations.
The entire class runs for about an hour, and you'll make about 5 different treats. We found the class really fun. While it certainly doesn't beat getting out and visiting one of Kyoto's many beautiful temples, it's a great alternative when the weather isn't amenable to outdoor activities. Have fun!
