Kansai International Airport - Izumisano-shi

All restaurants and shops were closed in the international terminal due to ‘COVID’. Airlines are accepting bookings of full flights, yet the airport isn’t prepared for reopening after the pandemic. All restrooms were closed too, except for one on the other side of the terminal! There were no options for getting a bite to eat before flying except for one vending machine which sold cake, almond chocolates and senbei crackers which seemed to be what everyone had for a ‘meal’ whilst waiting. Place was an absolute ghost town which is appalling this far into the pandemic where others are restarting life as normal. AND, after going through the strict COVID check-in regime, consisting of showing vaccination certificates and negative pcr tests, they then proceeded to check our temperatures before international security. I’d hate to find out what would happen if you were covid negative yet had a 37.6 degree temperature…

Kansai International Airport (IATA Code: KIX) is built on an artificial island (4,37km x 1,25km in dimensions) off the coast of Senshu in Osaka Bay, about 50 km from the center of Osaka city. It is easily accessible by road, railway and high-speed ferry. With more than 31,9 million passengers in 2019, the airport is the gateway to the Kansai region in the West of Japan. The airport provides one of the largest networks for both domestic and international routes (major transit routes for traffic to Japan, Southeast Asia and Australia) with complete 24-hours operations. The airport opened on 4th September 1994 to relieve overcrowding at the original Osaka International Airport, referred to as Itami Airport, which is closer to the city of Osaka and now handles only domestic flights. It consists of two terminals: Terminal 1, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, is the longest airport terminal in the world with a length of 1.7 km (as of 2018) and Terminal 2 (opened late 2012), designed to attract more LCCs by providing lower landing and operating fees. In 2019, there were 86 airlines operating 206,776 movements to 101 destinations on 2 airport's runways (3.500 meters and 4.000 meters in length) at the airport. The Kansai International Airport is an architectural and engineering marvel in all its features. This magnificent accomplishment of engineering was constructed on its own island, built from three neighbouring mountains and millions of cubic metres of concrete. A bridge with two levels (the top level comprises a road, and the lower level contains independent railways) connects the island with the shore. The impressive bridge measures in at 3,75km and is the longest truss bridge in the world.

International airport in Japan and close to Osaka , Kyoto and Kobe. 2020 received awards for the best airport in Asia.

Good domestic airport. It was convenient because there are many way to go in the Kansai areas.

One of the coolest airports in the world. Airport and terminal is super easy to navigate. Train service along with taxis are available just outside the terminal into the city. There is also a hotel and airport aviation museum on the island. The hotel is just outside the terminal past Metro station and the aviation museum has convenient free shuttle service (between hotel and terminal).

It's clean and nice airport where you can find the staffs are very kind and friendly. They have good WiFi. The location is a bit far from the city such as Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe although there are public transportation such as ferry, train and bus. When you arrive in Japan, you need to fill in the documents and take a PCR test again which takes extra time...

Numbers of JR trains are significantly decreased at the moment. It's better checking out other transportation methods (e.g. bus) depending on your flight schedule.

Great! (DOMESTIC TERMINAL) All staff are extremely friendly and very kind. The seating was as comfortable as can be in an airport. They had full glassed windows that overlooked some nicely kept gardens, with varying vegetation depending on your location. Lunch in the gate-area was pretty good. Not insanely priced… it was decent. The service and food was nice, and the area kept clean. The washroom were huge and could accommodate trolleys (prior to security screening). PEACH airlines found an very reasonable ticket via phone when the internet had cut 90% of tickets for all airlines and jacked the prices to reduce flying in this state of emergency. Their ground support staff was phenomenal as was the in-flight assistance. Other than it being a bit hot or a malfunctioning air conditioner? No complaints.
