高取城の二の門近くにあり、高取の城下町と飛鳥方面へ分岐している場所にある猿の石碑。
石は飛鳥時代に造られたと考えられているようです。
Visited in March 2018.
A monument to the monkey near the Ninomon gate of Takatori Castle, which branches off into the castle town of Takatori and the direction of Asuka.
It seems that the stone was made during the Asuka period.

見る価値はあるし、途中の国見櫓からの眺望はとてもよいです。

It is worth seeing, and the view from the Kunimi turret on the way is very good.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 高取城から城下町に下る大手道から岡口門への分岐点に鎮座している。
高取城築城の際、飛鳥梅山古墳付近で別の四体とともに掘り出され、石材として運ばれてきた一体と言われ、7世紀の作と推定されている。他の四体は梅山古墳に隣接する吉備姫王墓にある。
城の内外の「結界」を示すために置かれたとの説、猿は馬の守護神であるとの説などがあるそうだが、猿ではなく渡来人を写したものというのが正解らしい。
いずれにせよ、ユーモラスな表情をしておられ、休むには良い場所だ。
It sits at the junction from the main road that goes down from Takatori Castle to the castle town to Okaguchi Gate.
When Takatori Castle was built, it is said to have been excavated along with another four bodies near the Asuka Umeyama Tomb and carried as stone, and is estimated to have been made in the 7th century. The other four are in the tomb of Princess Kibihime, which is adjacent to the Umeyama Tomb.
There is a theory that it was placed to show the "barrier" inside and outside the castle, and that the monkey is the guardian deity of the horse, but it seems that the correct answer is that it is not a monkey but a migrant.
Either way, it has a humorous look and is a good place to rest.
