★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful little museum. When I went they had an exhibit from a French photographer that was absolutely tremendous. I recommend it to anyone wanting to take a break from the temples and the shopping.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wanted a brief break from visiting temples, so we checked out a great exhibit on Katsu Yoshida. A *very* quiet venue, which was very nice after walking through the hustle and bustle of Gion. It was a very quick walkthrough, but quite refreshing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A wonderful small museum (5 rooms) in central Kyoto, worth visiting if you are interested in the artists’ work in the current exhibition. The English-language website is fairly minimal and I was pleasantly surprised to find an exhibit of a multi-talented Kyoto ceramicist in the lower level gallery, in addition to the modern painter featured on the posters, culture calendar listings and website. The top floor of the museum has an interior garden as well as a gallery space. Location: Shijo-dori, one block west of Yasaka Shrine.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of my favourite little museums in Kyoto. It's smack dab in Gion with a small entrance that you could easily miss amidst all the hustle and bustle that is Gion. It's not cheap but a lovely place to enjoy whatever collection is on display. Finish your visit by going to the top floor where you will find a quiet Zen like space where you can rest and reflect on what you just saw.
