御本尊 阿弥陀如来立像
創立は延徳元年（1489年）の頃、開基は長尾大隅守元高の五男右衛門光盛と云われています。光盛は山科仏照寺に入り法名を円覚と改めた。
明応五年（1496年）蓮如上人が大阪に本山御堂を建立する時、大阪に詰めて協力し、数年後帰国し天文元来（1532年）栗熊村に坊舎を建立し、本願寺の末寺と成った。
天正七年（1579年）の長宗我部元親の讃岐侵入の兵火にかかり焼失しましたが蓮如上人筆の御名号は難を逃れました。後に小野村に移転し草庵を結びます。
寛永元年（1624年）法然聖人の由緒深き草庵跡と伝えられる現在地に移転しました。
寛文五年（1665年）本山より木仏、寺号の免許を得て法灯を継承しています。

In the first year of Kanei (1624), he moved to his present location, which is said to be the site of the venerable Kusuan of Honen saints.
In the 5th year of Kanbun (1665), he inherited the Buddhist lantern with a license from Motoyama for the wooden Buddha and the temple name.
