仏舎利塔の中には、釈迦牟尼如来（しゃかむににょらい）像と、タイ王立一級寺院ワットスラケットから贈られた真正な仏舎利（ブッダの遺骨）が納められており、聖なる巡礼地、超パワースポットです。
この仏舎利は、北インドのブッダの生誕地の寺院より1898年に発掘された壺に納められていたものだそうです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 青梅街道の鍋屋横丁付近で広い間口をもつ大きなお寺です。黄金にかがやくタイ風の鐘楼やパゴダが目に入ります。いつも門を閉ざしていますが、通用門の鍵が開いていれば参拝していいようです。真言豊山派のお寺で、創建は室町の天文年間、もとはもっと北の桃園川近くにあり、江戸時代にこちらへ移転したそうです。御本尊の聖観世音菩薩も室町時代の作だそうです。
もとは東中野の氷川神社の別当で、氷川坊と呼ばれた覺順和尚は自らも皮膚病で苦労したため、この病に苦しむ人々を救うために願を立て修業され徳業を積んだということで、皮膚病、婦人病の平癒祈願に参詣する人が多いとあります。
