★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 10 minutes drive out of Yuzawa, reasonably priced (¥10,000 for 3-day adult lift pass), max wait for lift was 5 minutes on a Japanese national holiday, good if slightly expensive food options (curry rice was great), and good range of slopes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best skiing areas I have been in Japan. There are a variety of different ski lifts to go for different levels of difficulty. The highest peak closes at around 4:30pm which is a safe thing as during winter it gets dark rather early. However, if you still want to ski during the night there is also a night time area where you could ski well into The night. If you choose to go there be sure to bring plenty of warm clothes and gloves and they tend to freeze, yes, freeze as the snow melts on your gloves and freezes again.
You can choose to live in one of the few hotels that are on The mountainside (1/4 up The mountain I think) where they provide Japanese style living quarters with public bathrooms and onsen (little small) as well as catering (small portions for those who are used to western portions).
On a good day with clear weather the view is simply stunning. And is worth every penny and minute getting there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This Resort is closed. No more ski. Also near by restaurants are closed. Please don't waste your time. We ended up waisting quite a lot of time. Please call the resort before you plan.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First time I tried snowboarding in my entire life. I had so much fun even though I rammed the plastic barricade at the base of the ropeway. Sorry. ?
I tried getting down from the top of the mountain to the bottom. I did it with a few stumbles.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the good choices when visiting Yuzawa by car: lots of parking lots right on the entrance. We came with our two years old daughter and the kids snow park is huuuge for sledges as well as playing in the snow. One star less because of the chaotic parking areas and no food in whatsoever restaurant after 3pm. Hence better be early and plan your day in the snow well!
