天和三年（１６８３）仙台藩主伊達綱村領内巡検として、東磐井郡猿沢より岩谷堂への途次、東街道は源義経が衣川館より夷地に下りし古道なりしと聞召し。これを通過せられし時、西南方土谷村内の一小峯を認められ、小時休憩してその風光を賞し、荒巻村伊勢山に類したりとて、この地を伊勢山と唱え、神明社を奉祀すべし旨命ありしを以て当時の村肝入小松大学等村民と相計り、社殿造営し伊勢神宮を奉安祭したり。また、綱村公より一反歩の社地を寄進せられたり。よって、社地付近の地名を御免と呼ぶ。
