猪鼻城または千葉城ともいわれる千葉氏の居城があった猪鼻山は、北は都川、西は断崖に面した天険の要害の地で、その大手口にあたる現在の千葉大学医学部構内外には、千葉氏が一族の繁栄を願って作ったいわれる「七天王塚」が残されています。
七つの塚には千葉氏の守護神である牛頭天王が祀られ、これらは千葉氏の崇拝する北斗七星の形に配置されていると言われています。また一説には、この七天王塚は千葉氏の七人の兄弟を葬った墓であるとか、平将門の「七騎武者」の墓とも伝えられています。
自分の聞いた話では、平将門には7人のわら人形で作られた影武者がいて、その影武者を祀った場所、なんて伝説もあります、7つの塚は全て大きな木の元に祀られていて、探すのが非常に楽しいです。
