2020年6月頃、兄弟間の土地の持ち分の移転登記について、経費の見積をまず電話で依頼した。その際「（経費を少しでも安くあげるため）住民票や固定資産税評価証明書など、自分で用意できるものは自分で揃える」という条件を伝えて、電話口ではその条件を了解してくれたものの、登記簿や公図の写しを持参のうえ訪問して改めて詳細を説明したところ、「初めての方については警戒しますねぇ」とまるでこちらが「地面師」であるかのような言い回し。どうやら、こちらの条件どおりだと住民票などの公的書類発行の手数料を稼げないことに電話後に気付いたらしく、前言のような台詞で、事実上門前払い。司法書士事務所なんて初めて行くって人ばかりだろうし、そんなことを面と向かって言うのであれば、どこぞの料亭みたいに「一見さんお断り」って看板でも出しとけ、と内心悪態をついた。この一事をもって断言するのは早計であろうが、法務局の周辺にあるような司法書士事務所は、素人の無知につけこんで「言い値でおまかせ」という客だけが相手なんだろうな、と感じた。登記の処理は、ここを辞去した「直後」に法務局からは距離は離れているものの、電話でこちらの条件を伝えて、見積を出すことを快諾してくれた別の司法書士事務所に依頼することとしました。めでたし、めでたし。
