J	Jim Paterson on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The rooms are much smaller than I am used to, but this seems to be the norm in most of Japan outside of Tokyo. Hi tech Japanese toilet included. We arrived late in the evening after a gruelling international journey, only to discover the hotel restaurant takes last orders at 8pm and there is no room service. However they do have a swimming pool!!! The hotel is located in a pleasant neighborhood and is short walk to a major international conference centre.

The hotel offered a breakfast buffet each morning that had Western style breakfast (scrambled eggs and omelettes, bread, juice, cereal) as well as Japanese breakfast options. Enough staff speak English if you don't speak Japanese for you to be able to make do.

I would recommend getting a room at the rear which doesn't get sun during the day, I guess they turn the cooling on in the summer.
P	Phil Cook on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is right next to the conference center and a reasonable walk from the Tsukuba Express station along a dedicated pedestrian path. Close to a grocery store and other stores, as well as several bars and restaurants. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. Maintenance is excellent and staff is very professional and attentive. Cleaning service is exceptional. The attached restaurant, Casa, provides acceptable food if you don't want to go far. Breakfast is chosen from a fixed menu, rather than from a buffet, and the limited choice gets repetitive after a week. Overall a good stay and a hotel I could easily recommend, although maybe the main location (not Epochal) would be better for longer stays due to breakfast choices.
