This is the oldest and best wooden building in the world. I felt that it is a building that Japanese people should leave behind without making it a world heritage.

I have visited since my elementary school school trip. After all, I often feel this kind of place when I get older than when I was a kid. [Explanation below] Five-storied pagoda (national treasure) The oldest existing wooden five-storied pagoda in the world. The height is 32.55m, and the characteristic of this tower is that the gradual reduction rate (rate of decrease in size) of the roof from the initial weight to the quintuple is high, and one side of the quintuple roof is about half of the initial weight roof. .. The space between the pillars from the first layer to the fourth layer is usually three rooms, but only the fifth layer is two rooms. On the eastern, western, southern, and northern sides of the Hatsushige Chancel, a group of statues of plastic called Tomoto Shimen (national treasure) is placed (a total of 80 statues are national treasures). The clay used for this statue is presumed to have been made from nearby soil because it has almost the same composition as the soil near the temple. The eastern side is the scene of the question and answer between Manjushri and Vimalakirti, which appears in "Imakyo", the northern side is the Buddha's Nirvana, and the western side is the branch building (the king of the Indian countries distributes the remains of Buddha, that is, the Buddha's property). ), The south side represents the Pure Land of Miroku. The statue of a Buddha disciple who mourns the death of Buddha on the north side is especially famous. There was also a mural painting inside the first layer of the five-storied pagoda (currently stored separately, designated as an important cultural property), but it has fallen off due to plaster being applied from above. The cornerstone (the cornerstone of the shinbashira) is located 3 meters underground, and in 1926, a glass jar and a gold, silver, and symphonic copper container were discovered inside the bashira. .. After the survey, the sashimi container was put in its original place.

wonderful. It looks like a national treasure Tamatebako. The fact that the 1400-year-old building remains means that it was cherished by everyone by faith. The ruins of the castle are often left untouched and often lonely or demolished ... In the early hours of the morning, the garden is swept clean and it's a waste to walk on it.

This is the oldest wooden structure in the world that is still standing. It’s amazing to think that people hundreds and hundreds of years ago were looking at this same exact pagoda. The area surrounding the pagoda is well kept and clean. This is one of the less-visited tourist sites in my experience, so you can actually relax here.

The pagoda that began to be built in ancient India to worship "Busshari" (the remains of Buddha) is called a pagoda. The five-storied pagoda is a form of the pagoda. A pagoda in the shape of a tower that has a five-storied roof. It was founded in 607 AD, the same as "Kondo". A symbol called "Suien" is attached to the tip of the tower. "Suien" contains a prayer to prevent disasters. This is a picture of the base of "Suien", which has a sickle symbol to mean to blow away the wind.

This was the highlight of Hōryū-ji for me! Built in the 6th-8th century, it is the oldest five-story pagoda in Japan. The skillful woodwork and decorations are very well maintained. The site is very popular and on the weekday I visited the were countless school groups, but it was still possible to spend a decent amount of time admiring the clay statues inside. Note: you don't actually go inside this building but can peer into it.
