山形県指定天然記念物で、庄内地方有数の松の名木です。言い伝えによると昔、酒井の殿様がこの松の美しい樹形に魅せられて、我が居城（鶴ケ岡城）に移植したところ、夜な夜な、女の泣き声が聞こえた。それから気味が悪くなり、この松が元の地を恋しく思って泣くのだろうと不憫に思い、六面地蔵を添えて植え戻した。それからこの松を地蔵の松と呼びようなったとされます。樹齢は推定370年とされ、この松は、源平合戦後（平家側）でこの地出羽に逃れて来た池田侯一族が鳥海山麓→余目福原→そして払田と転々とし、現地を〝払田〟と名付け、その頃にこの松が植えられとされる歴史のある木です。個人的には、鼠ヶ関の念珠の松（臥龍松）や大岩川の大坂神社のクロマツ、酒田市妙法寺の子産せの松、新堀慶全寺の法流之松、松山心光寺の松、鶴岡市の光明寺の松、旧余目町においては、下塚の松や乗慶寺の松、廻舘の舟つなぎの松など全く違った趣の松が楽しめるがその中でも払田の地蔵の松は上位に入ると思います。

Toriumi to Fukuhara, and then to Haraida, and the site became "Haraida". It is a historic tree that was named and is said to have been planted with this pine tree around that time.
