昔は、国道148号だったから、トラックではかななり難所でした。

平成7年に起きた災害で国道が崩落。代わりに旧道と平行して新道が出来た。白馬大仏は通行どめになった旧道沿いにあるので、長野県側から車でアクセスする場合には一回トンネルを通って糸魚川市に入ってさらに旧道を長野側にもどるというルートになる。
The Great Buddha of the Ruins
The national highway collapsed due to the disaster that occurred in 1995. Instead, a new road was created in parallel with the old road. The Hakuba Great Buddha is located along the old road, which has been closed to traffic, so if you want to access it by car from the Nagano prefecture side, you will have to go through a tunnel once to enter Itoigawa City and then return to the old road to the Nagano side.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 旧国道148号線沿いにあります。約50年前に建立された時は真っ白で白毫や唇が色鮮やかだったが、今は薄汚れてしまって見る影なし。今は誰が管理しているのだろう？階段や鐘楼は朽ち果てている。
大仏マニアの間ではとても有名な大仏だが、訪れている人を今まで一度も見たことが無い。
ここへ来るための道もひどい。これが元国道か！というほど道幅が狭く、ヘアピンカーブが連続する。警戒標識が以上に多い。しかも峠の先は通行止めである。まあ、ガソリンや時間を使ってまで見に来る価値はないですよ。
It is located along the old national highway 148. When it was erected about 50 years ago, it was pure white and its urna and lips were colorful, but now it is dingy and there is no shadow to see. Who manages it now? The stairs and bell tower are decaying.
It is a very famous Buddha among the Buddha enthusiasts, but I have never seen a visitor.
The road to get here is terrible. Is this the former national highway? The road width is so narrow that the hairpin curves are continuous. There are more warning signs. Moreover, the road is closed at the end of the pass. Well, it's not worth the time to come and see it with petrol and time.

トンネルが開通した後はほとんど通る車は在りません。
この大仏様。何となく目つきが………。
交通の要所に在り通行する人の交通安全を祈願しています。
昔は売店なども在ったんですけどね。

Few cars pass after the tunnel opens.
This big Buddha. Somehow the eyes are .........
We pray for the traffic safety of people who are at key points of traffic.
