One missing child, 74 current students, and 10 faculty members were lost under school management to save their lives, despite the fact that prompt evacuation behavior would definitely have helped. When I face the facts, every time I visit here, my heart is tightened and I have to feel terrified. Since it was released as the remains of the earthquake in July 2021, the inside of the school building can be seen. I dare to leave the image around 2013 that was burned into my eyes here. It is now a place of prayer dominated by silence, but until that ruthless day came, children's daily lives were practiced here. Let's think about what we should do in the future as we live by taking it for granted every day. To reward the thoughts of the bereaved family and the young lives that were sacrificed.

The school building, which is over 10m long and was destroyed by the tsunami, remains. You can see the power of the tsunami. Many children and teachers weep when they think of their death. I just hope that such a tragedy will never happen again. Please visit us when you wake up nearby.

I still remember the months of the earthquake that felt the end of the world. In the daily turmoil of that time, the events of this elementary school are deeply engraved on TV and the Internet. At that time, I was still single and felt vague resentment, saying, "I feel sorry for the children." After many years, I was in a position to have a child, and this time I had the opportunity to stand in this frozen place at dusk at the end of summer. There was only overwhelming compassion and silence rather than pity and sadness. There was a mountain behind me in front of me, and there was an environment where I could see the tsunami in the distance, but I couldn't make a calm judgment in an emergency. That fact causes reality to swell and rush directly into the brain. To be honest, I don't know if I can completely forgive the adults who couldn't do what I should do, but I'm not sure if I can make a calm decision in the same case. Probably not possible. I think that all we can do and what we have to do is the preparation, system, and continuation of memory to prevent the same thing from happening in the past denunciations. The sunset on this day was also very beautiful. Hopefully these peaceful days will continue

It was very clean and I think it was a lot of work. I am grateful to all the people involved. There is a detailed description of the time series until the evacuation on the day, such as the tsunami run-up height of the back mountain and the scars of the fresh school building. It is the role of adults to protect future children. I think it is necessary for everyone to share, not hesitate to evacuate, and not to underestimate nature. Please visit us. And let's pass it on without letting it weather.

It made me feel that we must remember to tell the events that happened in this place, the preciousness of life, to the future. Some words dedicated in front of the abandoned school building, and works of past graduates. I was motivated to point these words and works to those who have just begun to take on the dignity and life-threatening of others in the 21st century in Europe.

I am so glad to see that this place was not demolished, as it is necessary for people to be able to visit, both to pray for the souls and spirits of the departed, and to learn from the terrible mistakes made here that day. 74 out of 78 Okawa schoolchildren present at 3:47 on Friday March 11th 2011 were killed by the wave - and by the stubbornness and stupidity of their elders. 10 out of 11 teachers were also killed, as were all the village elders present. The astonishing thing is, that an easy path to high ground and safety was just yards away, but the children were forbidden to run to it, as the teachers and village elders squabbled over what to do. When the headmaster - who was away that day - finally returned to the school over a week later, all he seemed concerned with was finding the safe. Shame on him and all those stupid old men, and blessings to all the children who were swept away.

The story behind this place is really really sad. I empathize with the victims and the bereaved families. With this such a tragedy, this venue could pass the lesson to us and the unborn future generations so that such mistake won't be repeated when the similar disaster happen. Thank you for keeping the damaged school building and add the museum besides it.

The elementary school was closed due to the death of 74 children and 10 faculty members in the tsunami on March 11, 2011. It is the most sacrificed facility among the earthquake disaster remains. The evacuation method became a problem, and the responsibility of the city and prefecture was confirmed. Generally, in the event of a tsunami, it is recommended that individuals voluntarily escape to high ground quickly. However, there was testimony that the teachers gathered the children in the school playground, scolded the children trying to escape to the hills, and pulled them back to thoroughly carry out collective action. This is believed to be the cause of the tragedy. However, the trial pointed out the problem of inadequate evacuation programs before that, rather than pursuing the responsibility of the teachers who were the victims, and acknowledged the responsibility of the city and prefecture that did not prepare. The facility has been preserved as it was at that time. The murals that children around the world hold hands are drawn by school students. #letsguide
