北上川流域の狭い沖積地に面する丘陵の南斜面に立地する郡内では最大の群集墳である。東西130m・南北90mほどの範囲に、直径3～9mほどの小型の円墳約50基が分布し、そのうち3基が発掘調査された。墳丘は盛土による整地作業の後に砂岩の割石を積み上げたもので、中央部に割石小口積みによる退化した横穴式石室があった。石室からは鉄斧・鉄鑑・土師器などが出土しており、古くは蕨手刀や勾玉の出土も知られている。年代は出土遺物から9世紀～10世紀と推定され、平安時代にまでおよぶ古墳の築造は、この地域の歴史的特性を示すものとして意義深い。

It is the largest crowd burial mound in the county located on the southern slope of a hill facing a narrow alluvial plain in the Kitakami River basin. Approximately 50 small circular burial mounds with a diameter of 3 to 9 m were distributed in a range of 130 m from east to west and 90 m from north to south, and 3 of them were excavated. The mound was made by piling up sandstone crushed stones after land preparation work by embankment, and there was a degenerated horizontal hole type stone chamber in the center by crushing stones. Iron axes, iron stamps, Haji pottery, etc. have been excavated from the stone chamber, and warabitetō and magatama have been excavated in ancient times. The age is estimated to be from the 9th to 10th centuries from the excavated relics, and the construction of the tumulus extending to the Heian period is significant as an indication of the historical characteristics of the area.
