Doichi Station - Tokamachi

Country station, next to Jimmy's art exhibition!

It is an unmanned station in the middle of the Iiyama line. There are a few houses in front of the station, and if you walk toward the national highway, you will find restaurants scattered around. When I was taking pictures at the station, the train just came. The timing was very good as there are only a few flights a day.

It is a compact station with fashionable art works with a slight Ghibli feeling.

The location of "Kiss and Goodbye" at a few meters, matched the local scene quite well, and we were even more fortunate to see the one-hour train.

When it first opened, it was a station on the Iiyama Railway. There was an island platform with exchange facilities, and there was also a cargo platform on the national highway side. Since this station was the gateway to Mizusawa Village, which once existed, mixed trains stopped at this station for a relatively long time until C56 was the main character of the Iiyama Line. It seems that there was a time when C56 was wandering around at this station to push the freight car into the freight platform. In addition, there used to be a sake brewery behind this station, and it was said that the shipped sake was loaded into a freight car, but looking at this station today, I can't imagine what it was like in the past. Until 1991, when it was time for a train at a consignment station for about 10 years, an old lady came to the station building from the field on the Shinano River side and was working. In 2000, the previous station building was rebuilt to have the same design as a neighboring station made of concrete. In 2015, a work produced by Taiwanese writer Jimmy Liao called Kiss & Goodbye is permanently installed (currently it is not open to the public because it is also a corona wreck). There was a temporary stop called Ogurosawa Station after Date Station between this station and Tokamachi Station. The area around Kurosawa Kanko Kurien, which was named the best Kuribayashi in the Orient when it first opened, was once called Tsutsujihara, which has a beautiful colony of azaleas, and the nearest station for people who go there, and the village mayor lives in Ogurosawa. There was a station because it was there, but it seems that the number of passengers getting on and off at normal times was too small and it quickly became an abandoned station.
