吉田松陰先生
の像が建っている。昭和４３年（１９６８）に明治維新１００年を記念して建てられた像で、当時の首相・佐藤栄作が揮毫している。像は、海外密航を企て、下田港のペリー艦隊を見る吉田松陰とその弟子・金子重之助（重輔）の姿。
友人の話では、伊豆・下田にも同じ二人の像があるという。

There is a statue of. The statue was built in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration, and is evoked by the then Prime Minister Eisaku Sato. The statue shows Shoin Yoshida and his disciple Shigenosuke Kaneko (Shigesuke) looking at the Perry fleet at Shimoda Port in an attempt to stowaway overseas.
According to a friend, Izu and Shimoda also have the same statues of the two.

傾斜が付いており、下から見上げるので余計に大きくみえる
まだ新しくきれいだった
