A very quiet and elegant traditional “kissaten” Japanese coffee house. Here the pour-over coffee methods have been passed down from generation to generation to the current owner. Most known for the “chiffon cake” which is so soft and spongey covered in a delicate icing that compliments the flavors of the coffee. This is more of an experience than just a cafe or a restaurant.

Great coffee place with a nice cozy atmosphere. The Cappuccino’s are amazing and a must try if you like your coffee with milk. Their regular charcoal roasted coffees are great too with a verity to choose from. Don’t leave without trying their Chiffon Cake, it’s like eating a cloud!

This is the perennial coffee space in Tokyo. The vibe is prim and proper with coat hangars and wait staff at the door. The entrance is slightly hidden and once you walk in, it’s a step back into 70s japan with well attired baristas ready to serve pour over black coffee in its Essence. Each cup is of a different pattern and the extensive menu leaves nothing to the imagination. Must try to get that original historical coffee that Japan is famous for.

An off the main road and hustle bustle of the station. This cafe is a little gem in the busy and crowded city. It has a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Although, it can get crowded and busy-it never really loses that chilled ambience. The coffee/cappuccino was really smooth and not too acidic. The orange peel left a pleasant flavor. I didn't have to add any sugar to my drink. Lots of nice cups on display!

Xenophobic owner/manager. Do NOT bring your business here. This older woman singled out my friend and I and told us to be quiet (when other Japanese people were being more loud) so that’s fine we talked quietly. Then she told us we were running out of time? There were 2 Japanese girls next to us (just like my friend and I, 2 people) who were there before us and other larger groups who had been there longer and she only tells us to leave. We consumed a drink and a cake slice each, we weren’t there for even 2 hours. There was no one waiting outside or in line so she just wanted us out. Then as we were getting up and and putting our coats on, she tells us 3 TIMES ありがとうございます her very obvious way of telling us to hurry. Will never come back, don’t recommend this place to any foreigner.

If you love coffee, one must absolutely pay a visit here. I love that the staff wear ties with a collar shirt. It gives that impression of professionalism. The coffee is expensive here, yes, but it is some of the best coffees I have ever had. A seat at the bar/counter will allow you to watch staff hone their craft. The chiffon cake is a must-have here. It comes in many flavors. Personally, we had banana a brown sugar. Delicious. The dishware you are served in us each unique. Nobody gets the same pieces. I say take the time to observe this. Lastly, this is the place featured by the Blue Bottle guy. This place is legit!

Chatei Hatou has become one of my most favourite cafes in Tokyo. Hard to find but also hard not to fall in love with it. Great variety of coffee beans. Special beans are quite high price. The staffs spoke little English but were friendly. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the barista brews the coffee for you. It was fun to guess which cup he would choose for you too, from what I saw, all cups were different in design. I didn’t try the cakes but most of the people were having it so I guess it must be good. A little note that smoking is allowed here and more than half of the customers were puffing it while I was there. So it might not be for you if you’re allergic to cigarette smoke.

I came with my friend and sat in the counter area... The tea was okay and it was overpriced (950yen+), but my whole experience was ruined by the old staff in front of us who did not wear mask even during this pandemic situation and she told me and my friend to turn down our voice in unfriendly way... even tho we were talking normally... the cafe was crowded and noisy as well! She even kept checking my teapot to see if there was still any tea and kept pouring it into my cup even tho the cup was not empty yet as if I should drink it fast... Additionally she also scolded other staffs in front of us... After that we wanted to pay in the cashier but nobody was there and after another old staff came he was not friendly either... additionally you can't pay with cards, they only accept cash.. so make sure you bring your cash! (even tho i don't recommend you to come tho ?) there are many other cafes in shibuya that are worth it.
