★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice atmosphere, close to Nijo Castle. Do not come here if you are in a rush. Took 45 minutes from ordering to receive the food and coffee. Food was quite basic, nothing exceptional. Cappuccino was mostly foamed cream, and the coffee itself was quite weak. It appears there is a lack of communication between staff, contributing to the prolonged wait time. In a group of four, they got two orders wrong (which we did not complain about, as we did not want to wait another 45 minutes).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely cafe with polite and gracious service. The cappuccino is wonderful (adjust like a flat white in the UK - or favourite) and the chocolate & banana muffins and citrus amanatsu tart we wonderful too. Delicious

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful food and delicious coffee! Being lactose intolerant I've found it a bit difficult to find good quality soy coffee in Japan, they do it really well here at Cafe Phalam. The food (i had the hamburger) was delicious and the perfect size.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. The veggie burgers alone were super amazing and the cake... Amazing cake!!
The place was lovely and clean, very friendly. Amazing options to find at a great little cafe downtown. I posted some pictures of the current menu, the ones that are vegan and gluten free are marked with stamps!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cafe is spacious (based on Japanese standards), could easily fit more than 20 people. Great service with a male staff who could speak English relatively well. No extra tax to the prices on the menu, ranging about 850 to 950 yen for the meals.
We ordered the vegetarian options: vegetable burger and vegetable combo plate. Travelled in May 2018.

If perchance one plans a trip to the bamboo forest from the Nija / Oike area then a visit to this establishment is obligatory.
Many options on the food menu are vegan. The coffee is truly excellent. The staff are delightful.
We popping in for coffees (one hand drip and one French press) in the early morning, and we liked it so much that we returned later in the day to have lunch.
All the food (see photos) we had was top notch, especially the pickles, the burger bread and the coffee jelly (see menu).
To top it all off we chose an espresso brownie with a shot of espresso (excellent), the combination was heavenly.
