★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 菩薩寺の開山は平安時代の969年と伝えられています。その頃、京洛の六波羅蜜寺に拠点を置いていた光勝空也上人の弟子、空了が寺の礎を築いたそうです。
空也上人が諸国修行中、この地に立ち寄って説法し、小堂を建てたのが寺の始まりとしている説もありますが、空也は972年に没しているので、年齢・体力的に諸国行脚は無理だったような気もします。弟子の空了が師の指導にしたがって回国修行をしていたと考える方が自然かもしれません。
もっとも、空也も空了も伝説ばかりで行跡に関する史料はほとんど残されていないので、史実を確認することはできませんが。
ところで、寺の本尊は愛染明王です。憤怒の形相で怒髪衝天、３つの眼と６つの腕を備え、５本の鈷がついた獅子冠をかぶっています。俗世の煩悩を断ち切り、大悲の心で衆生を救済するのだとか。
菩薩寺は、古峰山稜線上の和田城砦の鬼門の方角にあるので、おそらく城砦の鬼門除けのひとつだったのでしょう。
The opening of Bodhisattva Temple is said to be in 969 during the Heian period. At that time, Kuya, a disciple of Kuya Mitsukatsu, who was based at Rokuharamitsuji Temple in Kyoto, laid the foundation for the temple.
There is a theory that Kuya's superiors stopped by this place to preach and built a small shrine while training in various countries, but Kuya died in 972, so his age and physical strength I feel that it was impossible to travel to other countries. It may be more natural to think that the disciple's vacancy was practicing Kaikoku under the guidance of his teacher.
However, since Kuya and Kuya are all legends and there is almost no historical material left about the traces, it is not possible to confirm the historical facts.
By the way, the principal image of the temple is Aizen Myo. In the form of wrath, he wears a lion crown with five swords, with three eyes and six arms. It is said that the worldly desires will be cut off and the sentient beings will be rescued with great sorrow.
Bosatsuji Temple is located on the ridgeline of Mt. Furumine in the direction of the demon gate of Wada Fort, so it was probably one of the demon gates of the fort.
