駅そばにある、山形県立長井工業高校の生徒さん、先生方、PTAの皆さんが待合室を作られ、長井工高の生徒さんや地域の有志の皆さんが清掃活動をされるなど、正真正銘の手づくりの地域密着の駅。
どうか多くの方に訪れてほしい。そしてしばし駅のホームに建って、また待合室で、地域の皆さんの想いに触れていただきたいです。きっと、長井での旅路が感慨深いものとなると思うのです。
