★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 地蔵様が見つめる先には万願寺川が流れており、河川の安全を見守っているように見えます。資料によると嘉永２年（1894年）に造立された高さ２ｍの大型石仏です。その昔、万願寺川には深い淵があり水遊びをしていた子供たちが度々溺死したそうです。村人は河童が子供を引き込んでいると恐れて、地蔵様を造立して河童から子供を守ろうとしたそうです。そう思うと大型であることも河童に対しての威圧も含めてなんとなく納得できます。昔は川遊びが出来た河川ですが、今は簡単に入ることは出来なくなってます。この場所の川遊びは危険なので、お地蔵様を見に行く程度にするのがいいかと思います。

A long time ago, there was a deep pool in the Manganji River, and children who were playing in the water often drowned. The villagers were afraid that the kappa were attracting children, so they built Jizo and tried to protect the children from the kappa. With that in mind, I can understand that it is large and intimidating the kappa. It used to be a river where you could play in the river, but now you can't easily enter it. Playing in the river at this place is dangerous, so I think it's best to go to see Jizo.
