★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 徳川家康の六男、松平忠輝の居城として天下普請により築かれたお城です。天下普請であるにも関わらず天守が築かれず石垣も使われず、土塁作りといういう構造です。
ただし堀は広く水をたたえています。
現状は復元された天守代用の三重櫓が目を引きます。

三重櫓も復元されていて、躯体はともかく、中は木造的な感じで雰囲気も出ています。
一時期、陸軍の駐屯地となっていたようで、その時にいろいろとなくなってしまったようです。
西側の堀は蓮の花の見所となっていて、皆さん写真を撮っていました。
市民のいこいの場として羨ましいところです。
