枡江遺跡は，市の北部にあり，JR東仙台駅の西約1.4kmに位置する。台原・小田原丘陵の南斜面に立地し，標高は44～47mで，面積は約6,200㎡である。その範囲は東西120m，南北80mで，北西に隣接して与兵衛沼窯跡，南東に神明社窯跡がある。昭和52年(1977)に枡江小学校の建設に伴う発掘調査が，古窯跡研究会により実施された。竪穴住居跡と掘立柱建物跡は窯跡の南側下斜面部分の平場にあり，時期的に3～4回の変遷が認められた。1軒の竪穴住居跡内から鍛冶施設が発見されたことから，これらの遺構群は瓦を製作するための工房施設と考えられる。出土遺物は瓦のほか土師器，須恵器，木製品，石製品，鉄滓(てっさい)などがある。瓦は軒丸瓦(重弁蓮華文(じゅうべんれんげもん)，細弁蓮華文(さいべんれんげもん))軒平瓦(単弧文)，丸瓦，平瓦，鬼瓦，道具瓦，塼(せん)などがある。このうち重弁蓮華文軒丸瓦と単弧文軒平瓦は奈良時代後半，細弁蓮華文軒丸瓦は平安時代初期のものである。

The Masue Ruins are located in the northern part of the city, about 1.4km west of JR Higashi-Sendai Station. It is located on the southern slope of the Dainohara and Odawara hills, with an altitude of 44 to 47 m and an area of approximately 6,200 m2. The range is 120m east-west and 80m north-south, with the Yoheenuma kiln site adjacent to the northwest and the Shinmeisha kiln site to the southeast. In 1977, an archaeological survey was conducted by the Kogama Ruins Study Group for the construction of Masue Elementary School. The remains of the pit dwelling and the remains of the excavated pillar building are located on the flat ground on the lower slope on the south side of the kiln site, and three to four changes were observed in time. Since a blacksmithing facility was found in the ruins of one pit dwelling, these remains are considered to be workshop facilities for making roof tiles. In addition to roof tiles, excavated relics include Haji pottery, Sue pottery, wood products, stone products, and iron slag. The tiles are eaves-maru tiles (jubenrengemon, saibenrengemon) eaves flat roof tiles (single arc pattern), round roof tiles, flat roof tiles, onigawara, tool tiles, and fences. There is a roof tile. Of these, the heavy-duty lotus flower bunken round roof tile and the single-arc bunken flat roof tile are from the latter half of the Nara period, and the thin-ben lotus flower bunken round roof tile is from the early Heian period.
