★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 以前と駅の様子がかなり変わってしまったので、久しぶりにホームに降りた目の見えない人が、立ったまま動けなくなっていた。駅員は二階の改札に一人いるだけなので、そんなこと気付きもしないだろう。駅を大きくしたなら人も増やさないと！
 The situation at the station has changed a lot from before, so an invisible person who got home after a long time was unable to move while standing. There is only one station employee at the ticket gate on the second floor, so you won't notice that either. If you increase the station, you have to increase the number of people!

1942年（昭和17年）7月1日：青梅電気鉄道の東中神停留場として開業。旅客営業のみ。
1944年（昭和19年）4月1日：青梅電気鉄道が戦時買収私鉄指定により国有化、運輸通信省青梅線の駅となる。
1987年（昭和62年）4月1日：国鉄分割民営化に伴い、東日本旅客鉄道（JR東日本）の駅となる。
2001年（平成13年）11月18日：ICカード「Suica」の利用が可能となる。
2005年（平成17年）3月25日：この日をもってみどりの窓口の営業を終了し、「もしもし券売機Kaeruくん」を設置。
2012年（平成24年）2月15日：「もしもし券売機Kaeruくん」を廃止、多機能券売機を設置。
2015年（平成27年）8月：「東中神駅自由通路整備及び駅舎橋上化工事」着工。2017年度末の完成を予定していた。
2017年（平成29年）3月19日：橋上駅舎使用開始、自由通路一部使用開始。自由通路の2階に新設された改札口は、終日北口からも利用できるようになった。これに伴い1階南口駅舎（旧駅舎）と北口臨時改札口は利用を停止。
2018年（平成30年）3月：自由通路・橋上駅舎が竣工。

July 1, 1942 (Showa 17): Opened as Higashinakajin Station of Ome Electric Railway. Passenger sales only.
April 1, 1944 (Showa 19): Ome Electric Railway was acquired during the war and was nationalized by the designation of a private railway.
April 1, 1987: With the privatization of the JNR division, it becomes a station on the East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
November 18, 2001: The "Suica" IC card can be used.
March 25, 2005: The green window was closed on this day, and "Hello Hello Ticket Vending Machine Kaeru" was installed.
February 15, 2012: "Hello Hello vending machine Kaeru" was abolished and a multi-function vending machine was installed.
August 2015: Construction of “Higashinakajin Station free passage maintenance and station building bridge construction” started. It was scheduled to be completed at the end of FY2017.
March 19, 2017: Use of Hashigami station building started, and some free passages started to be used. The new ticket gate on the second floor of the free passage is now accessible from the north exit all day. The first floor south exit station building (former station building) and the north exit temporary ticket gate are no longer available.
March 2018: Free passage / Hashigami station building completed.
