I generally only visit this shrine during the Plum Blossom festival in February. I like this shrine because it's relatively easy to find when using Google Maps. The Shrine is also near the Ueno area which has a nice park and a lot of eating areas. If you get there during the peak of the plum blossom season, you'll be treated to quite a sight. The photos I loaded with this review are from my last visit and as you can tell, I was a bit late in the season. The visit was still fun however, as there are a variety of food and drink stands open. It's so relaxing to enjoy a tea or a beer under these trees.

Awesome plum blossoms in the Yushima Tenjin Shrine. Must visit place during February. Lot of different varieties of plum blossom trees can be found in the Yushima Tenjin shrine in Bunkyo city, Tokyo. It’s near to Ueno Park and the University of Tokyo. Various religious rituals will take place during the Ume Matsuri festival in month of February and March

Nice small shrine with food stalls. Not all of them were open, but we went on a Thursday around 3pm. Nice plum trees during this time of year too! We saw a monkey show, which was fantastic and had some amezake. Great find! Is free.

I visited Yushima just after the plums had fully bloomed. For a small shrine, it certainly has a lot to offer. The tiny Japanese garden inside the shrine is a nice spot to just sit down and enjoy the place. There were some food stalls nearby as well. And if you're in the mood for it, Ameyokocho is just a 10-minutes walk away.

It is often visited by nearby university students to ask for help with their education and tests. Even during the rainy/cloudy day I found a lot of students still visiting. If you do not know the significance of this shrine then it will seem like a normal shrine with no unique feature. But it was still a great first (and last) visit. Must visit if you are in the area or if you pass by it but i wouldn't recommend that you go out of your way (unless you really need help in your next exams).

Beautiful and modern temple! There are 3 variations of sakura blossoms here. The white ones are not quite in bloom yet. I think mid March would be a better time to view them. Definitely worth a visit.

Went for the plum blossom festival, and it was more beautiful than expected. Many trees haven’t bloomed yet so I think you can still see the flowers for some time. It was crowded so be prepared to navigate a crowd and wait for photos. Highly recommend it, and the limited goshuin is beautiful, too.
