★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この野馬土手は旧 大栄町横山と大沼の境界から、県道佐原多古線(113号)に沿って北へ真っ直ぐに伸び、佐原(現 香取市)との境界になっている土手で、途中民家になって途切れはするものの、かなり長い野馬土手です。
この辺りは江戸時代に下総佐倉牧の矢作牧があった場所です。
徳川幕府は軍用馬を養育するため、下総台地にいくつもの牧場をもっていました。そこで放牧していた馬を野馬と呼びます。
この野馬土手は、牧場の柵の役目をしていた矢作牧の遺構です。
 This Noma bank extends straight north along the prefectural road Sawara Tako Line (No. 113) from the boundary between Yokoyama and Onuma in the former Taiei Town, and becomes a boundary with Sawara (currently Katori City). Although it is interrupted, it is a fairly long Noma bank.
This area is the place where Yahagi Maki of Shimosa Sakura Maki was located in the Edo period.
The Tokugawa Shogunate had several ranches on the Shimosa Plateau to raise military horses. Horses grazing there are called wild horses.
This Noma bank is the remains of Yahagi Maki, which served as a fence for the ranch.
