★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1180年、石橋山の合戦に敗れ房総に逃げてきた源頼朝は、源氏と縁の深い石清水八幡宮の別宮であったここ飯香岡八幡宮にて、源氏再興を祈願して「若しこれが活着すれば大願は成就されよう」として銀杏を逆さに植えたといいます。
銀杏はきちんと根付きました。今でも青々とした葉をつけています。頼朝のその後の出世を見ると祈願は達せられたのでしょうか。
 In 1180, Minamoto no Yoritomo, who lost the battle of Ishibashiyama and fled to Boso, prayed for the revival of Genji at Iigaoka Hachimangu, which was the annex of Iwashimizu Hachimangu, which has a close relationship with Genji. It is said that the ginkgo was planted upside down, saying, "If you do, your wish will be fulfilled."
