旧袋原村社、明治四十三年（一九一〇年）五月八日中田村神社に合祀。その後残った社殿は小原地区に移ったが、昭和十年代に現在地に移転した。
昔、袋原地方に悪病が流行ったためその平癒祈願のため祀られた。
