J	JJ on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 南北に200mくらいの路地。思ったより短かかった。車で行った場合、上田城跡公園の駐車場が安いので、そこから徒歩で10分弱くらい。柳町で何か食べようと思ったがあまり気のきいたお店はない。 An alley about 200m north and south. It took shorter than I expected. If you go by car, the parking lot at Ueda Castle Ruins Park is cheap, so it's about 10 minutes on foot from there. I thought I'd eat something in Yanagimachi, but there aren't many shops that are very nice.
ノ	ノーリー on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 旧北国街道上田宿の面影が残る柳町。ほんの僅かな区間ですが、古い街並みの風情を感じる事の出来る上田市屈指の観光スポットです。街道沿いには、酒蔵、味噌蔵、菓子店、雑貨店などの他、パン屋、カフェ、居酒屋、武道具店までもが軒を連ねます。江戸時代には参勤交代や善光寺参りの他、佐渡金山からの金の運搬などの往来も盛んで大変賑わっていたとの事。上田城からは少し離れた場所に位置します。大概この様なスポットは城跡に隣接しているものですが、離れている分、上田の城下町としてのスケールの大きさを感じます。 Yanagimachi retains the remnants of Ueda-juku on the former Northern Highway. Although it is only a short section, it is one of the best sightseeing spots in Ueda where you can feel the atmosphere of the old cityscape. Along the highway, there are sake breweries, miso breweries, confectionery stores, general stores, as well as bakeries, cafes, taverns, and weapons stores. During the Edo period, it was very busy with traffic such as changing attendance, visiting Zenkoji Temple, and transporting gold from Sado Kinzan. It is located a little away from Ueda Castle. Most of the spots like this are adjacent to the ruins of the castle, but I feel the scale of Ueda as a castle town because of the distance.

a	aaron meldahl on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a short street of shops in historic buildings: bakeries, cafes, restaurants, sweets, sake, miso, and more. It doesn't take too long to explore and everyone was very friendly. At the north end is a local shrine with mountains as a dramatic backdrop. The streets to the west, especially along the little river, are also full of character but not very developed. I would definitely recommend spending an hour or two here if you're in the area.
