１９７０年代に、セリカ・カリーナを送り出した工場です。現行型カムリは、海外でも生産されている人気車種です。当工場には、エコロジーの一環として、廃バンパーなどのリサイクルを行う工場があります。ここで再生した樹脂材料は、新車の防音材などに利用されています。工場で使われた排水は、浄水濾過されたあと、お魚さんが住む池やお手洗い等に使われます。このように環境対策に取り組む先陣をきるのは、ここ堤工場からのようです。脱・炭素化に向けても、これから様々な取り組みが始まることでしょう。クルマを造るという部分だけでなく、こうした取り組みにも目を向けると、自動車産業の新たな一面に気付くことになると思います。
