★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 震災前は三王岩への遊歩道入口付近に明治と昭和の津波を高さを表すプレートがありましたが、平成の津波の際にプレートが流されてしまったようで、JFたろう（田老漁協）製氷貯氷施設に黄色いプレートで津波の到達高さを示すプレートがありました。

とあります。
以前、岩場に掲示されていたプレートよりも、津波の高さがより実感として伝わってくるようでした。この高さは「波」の高さではなく、海水面の高さなので、あの高さまで海が上昇したかと思うと、津波の破壊力の大きさは想像すらできません。
田老のきた方はぜひこちらにも足を運んで欲しいなと思いました。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ プレートは流されてしまっていたが、代わりに製氷貯氷施設につけられていた。しかし、他の物に目を奪われてしまう。三陸海岸沿いに建造されている新しい防潮堤だ。
三陸を北上してきた中で、建設中の防潮堤をいくつも見てきたが海側から見たのは、ここが初めてだった。
あの田老の防潮堤が低く見える…。完成したら、全く見えなくなるのね。大川小と同じ位、衝撃的な風景でした。
来る際は、道路が確定してないので、山王岩への急坂に入らず、その手前で右折してください。

田老港にある貯氷施設の隣にある崖に、津波の到達点が記されています。
見上げる程の高さの津波が、何度もやって来ている事を実感できるでしょう。
