Shinyama Castle is one of the outcasts of Tenjinyama Castle (built in 1466: Koyamacho Minami, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture), which was built around the same time as Tottori Castle in the 14th year of Tenbun (1545). The castle was built in preparation for the invasion of Tajima Shugo Yamana. Nakamura Izumori is the castle guard. Tenjinyama Castle is the residence of Mr. Inaba Mamoru Yamana during the Muromachi period. It is written in the Edo period geography "Inaba Shi" that the castle was built by Katsutoyo Yamana in the first year of Bunsho (1466). Although the history of the castle's construction is unclear, Tenjinyama Castle was a political base under the control of Inaba Province for about 100 years from the latter half of the 15th century until Yamana Toyokuni moved to Tottori Castle in 1573. Tenjinyama Castle used to have an inner moat and an outer moat, and the inner moat was dug into a rectangle about 400 meters north-south and about 300 meters east-west around Mt. Tenjin. The outer moat also incorporates Mt. Fuse, and has a total length of 2.6 kilometers leading to Lake Koyama Pond. It is thought that a castle town was formed inside the outer moat, and it was a magnificent castle. In the excavation survey, earthenware, Chinese-made pottery, Bizen ware, old coins, clogs, and curved objects (magemono) have been discovered. Even now, there are still traces of wells, turrets and moats.
