堂境内にある 同じく国宝の西塔より総高が少し低いです
東塔は塔の直ぐ近くまで行くことが出来 間近に軒裏の組木の様子や 木肌もヨク見ることが出来 間近で歴史を感じる事ができます

2010年に特別公開で初層を拝観したことがあります。
