★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Simply breath taking foliage. The place is 30 min bus ride from Sakurai station. The bus runs only once every hour (or less). Expect some stairs, as the shrine is located in the mountain. 13 storied pagoda built in 7th Century is uniquely elegant. Also known for late blooming Sakura, cherry blossoms.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A fantastic spiritual place built on a highland slope. It's worth the trip there. If you take a bus from Samurai Stn. the walk down to Ashland via the terraced fields is something special, too. In Asuka, there are many interesting things to see on the way to your train home. You could also walk back to Samurai through the forest.
