往古は自然の祠であったと伝えられる。延暦二十年（８０１）坂上田村麻呂が人首（現在の米里）大森山の賊徒征伐の折に祈願し、御神託を得たと伝えられる。
降って天長二年（８２５）将軍は、従者をして祠を改築せしめた。現在の前社である。

In the second year of the Tencho period (825), the shogun made a servant and rebuilt the shrine. It is the current former company.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 鳥居を抜け坂道を登ると民家らしき建物と神社と思い車を停め建物の脇を見ると赤い鳥居と階段が見え、階段を登ると社殿がありました。雰囲気は良いのです逆に寂しい感じでした,。
