★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 周辺に高い建物が建ってしまっているので光もかなり遮られ、目立たない印象なのですが
青梅街道沿いでありながら静けさを保っており、境内も綺麗です。
竹下稲荷神社は周辺の竹下新田が開発された頃(天明4年1784年頃)創建と考えられているそうです。
御祭神は蒼稲魂命(うかのみたまのみこと)です。
石造の水盤は安政6年1859年で、社殿は安政4年1857年と共に江戸時代です。鳥居は明治時代、社務所は新しいな、と思ったら平成に入ってからの建物です。

駐車場はないので、参拝は徒歩と公共交通や自転車が望ましいでしょう。
都内の幹線道路沿いでもこのような文化財と緑地が残っている事はとても大切だと思います。
青梅街道がもともと、青梅の石灰を江戸城の改修のために輸送する道路であり、その後は御嶽山への参詣や裏甲州街道として旅人が行き交う道路であったなど、歴史的経緯が書かれた看板は勉強になります。

青梅街道は交通量の多い通りですが、そんな通り沿いにあっても気付かずに通り過ぎてしまいそうな、控えめな印象の神社です。周囲には集合住宅などが建っています。
同じく青梅街道沿いにある井草八幡宮と比較すると敷地面積もかなり小ぢんまりとしています。
社務所がありますが、基本的には無人のようです。清掃はされているようで、境内は綺麗にされています。
