The teachers were friendly and we got through all of the material. I took the JLPT N3 prep course for July '18 and passed. I'm planning on registering for the JLPT N2 prep course for the December '18 exam . **Update** I passed the JLPT N2.

Hi, Just want to share my experience with SNG Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute. Bad Things: 1. Facilities are outdated. 2. You can expect have prospect teachers training with you. You will be a Guineas pig. 3. You will be treated like a 8yo kid. Lessons will be that way too. 4. Expect a total lack of respect from some teachers. They feel they are superior to you since you are an student, and will make it clear as many times as they have the chance. 5. You will have to start classes saying "KONNICHIWA SENSEI" and end clases saying "SENSEI SAYONARA". Remember, you are like 8yo kid and inferior. 6. Depending on the teacher, you cannot charge your phone/laptop at the school power outlets. I have been told "you can't charge your stuff here, charge it at home". Doesn't matter that you have paid 2,000 usd for 3 months lessons.... 7. I remember one teacher (his name started by Mi, can't remember his name in full) that used to laugh at students when they failed their answers. I have to say that he was the exception. Probably he had a miserable life and felt great making others feel under him. How knows. Good Things: 1. Next to the school there is a coffee shop called ROASTER that is great. Lastly, I would say that if you looking for a good place to learn Japanese, this is the wrong address. There are tons of Japanese Schools that will treat you better, for the same price or even less. Good Luck!!

I have experience only with the evening classes. When I enrolled, there was no "Introductory" class, only "Beginner 1". Also, that class had already started half a year beforehand so students were over the first half of the book already. That should have been a big red flag already but I had no other options that suited my timetable so I enrolled into Beginner 1 anyways, thinking that I'll catch up somehow. I was wrong. Anyways, the textbook is pretty much unusable, but at least it's cheap. We didn't use it in class at all. The biggest issue however is that *everyone* in class is on a different level. Mainly because everyone is "forced" into Beginner 1, because no lower level evening classes were started. This way, the class is suitable for absolutely nobody. It was way too hard for me, and I knew very basic grammar and how to read and write the kana. It was impossible to follow the class without any textbook. Keep in mind that there is ZERO English support from the teacher. No homework either and no materials handed out. My only option was to self-study from Genki. Then I realized that it was more productive to study by myself from an actual, good textbook rather than being embarrassed in class not knowing what is going on half the time, so I stopped going after 6 or 7 lessons (you only need to pay for 10 upfront). So yeah, be aware of the evening classes and explore your options a bit more than I did. One positive thing I can say is that my classmates were nice.

It's a good school. Teachers and staff are friendly and professional. (btw Fukui Sensei is awesome!) Kinda on the more expensive side and they assign lots of homework and move at a fast pace but if you do the work you'll learn a lot. On the bad side, facilities are weak and it feels a bit of a money grab since they keep adding students and don't limit class sizes. My class started out at 14 and within 2 to 3 weeks was up to 22.

Osaki and Tsurugaya sensei are the best. The school have their own method which is good at some points. It’s really near Takadanobaba station and has tons of places to discover and try to use your Japanese.

I attended the 1-month, short term course in January and enjoyed my time at Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute. Based on my limited time, SNG was quite fine actually. The lessons weren’t overly intense, but do keep in mind it is challenging. You need to consistently focus on the class material and homework, which is good if you want to learn Japanese a bit more quickly. But if you want to casually learn the language, while primarily focusing on traveling Tokyo, then you may fall a bit behind. I like that they also have an app, VLJ, that allows you to review Japanese material and stay up to date. That’s what actually stood out to me, since it showed me that the school not only focused on teaching Japanese efficiently, but also adjusting to the time we actually live in. And that's nice.
