★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 住宅街に溶け込んでいますが、よくよく見ると遊郭、赤線時代の名残が色濃く残っています。
 It blends into a residential area, but if you look closely, the remnants of the Yukaku and red line eras remain dark.

表通りから一本中に入ると、雰囲気ががらっと変わります。
歴史ある場所のようでした。
It was on the back road of the People's Town Exchange Center!
The atmosphere changes drastically when you enter the main street.
It was like a historic place.

また昭和３３年まで五条楽園と言い、赤線地帯が有りました。
その当時の事は少し覚えています。
この辺を歩くと当時の面影は存在居て居ます。
This is a great place in Kyoto,
It was called Gojo Rakuen until 1933 and there was a red line zone.
I remember a little bit of that time.
If you walk around here, you will find the features of that time.

江戸時代から2010年まで存続
した花街・遊郭の街を流れる
高瀬川沿いに記念碑が建つ
二条から伏見まで掘られた人口
の水路(運河)高瀬川は1610年の
方広寺大仏殿の再建をきっかけに
豪商・角倉了以・素庵親子が
自費を投じ1614年に開通させた
高瀬舟という物資輸送用の舟は
帆走の他は舟曳人夫や馬が川岸の
曳舟道を曳いた。二条から四条の
間に９か所の舟入(積降場)、
四条以南に船廻し場(方向転換場)
が置かれていた
二条から七条を経由し伏見に
流れた高瀬川は江戸時代を通じ
伏見港を経て大坂へ繋がる物流
手段として重要な役割を果たした
1894年(明治27年)の琵琶湖疏水
(鴨川運河)開通により輸送量は
減少し1920年(大正９年)高瀬川
の水運は廃止された

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 船廻し場跡といわれてもピンと来ないですね。現在は、案内板があるのみです。なかなか想像出来ません。
Even if it is said to be a ship turning site, it doesn't come with a pinch. Currently, there is only an information board. I can't quite imagine.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 高瀬川は元々は伏見の巨椋池から水運を利用して方広寺大仏の物資などを運搬させるために豊臣秀吉が門倉了以に開削を開始させたもの。明治時代に入り東海道が開通すると物資運搬量も減り大正9年に廃止された。このあたりは元々遊郭で、戦後は赤線として、つい最近(平成22年)までは五条楽園として茶屋置屋が営業していたが警察の摘発で廃業に追い込まれた。現在は外人向けのゲストハウスなども増えてきたが、裏通りを探してみるとそれらしいポップな建物が残っているので探してみるのも面白い。
Originally Takase River was opened by Hideyoshi Toyotomi in order to transport goods such as the Great Buddha of Hokoji Temple using water transportation from Fukumi pond pond. When the Tokaido opened in the Meiji era, the amount of goods transported decreased, and it was abolished in 1918. This area was originally a red light district, a red line after the war, and until recently (2010) Goya paradise was used as a teahouse storage shop, but was forced out of business by police. At present, guest houses for foreigners are increasing, but it is interesting to look for back streets because there are still pop-like buildings left.
