A shrine built on the hills of Itabashi Shimura, which has many slopes. It seems that Mr. Shimura, a local prince, invited a shrine.
After that, when Mr. Chiba built Shimura Castle here, he said that he protected the castle, including this one.
The west side (left side) of the main hall is hollow, but it is said to be the castle moat.

It is said that it was founded in the third year of the Heian period (1042), and that the local general manager Shimura solicited it from Kumano in Wakayama prefecture, but the grounds for this are not clear.
There is a stone structure on the left side of the precincts Chozuya. Inscription of Kenyuki in December of the 7th year of culture. It is engraved that Yoshizumi, the master of Fujizaemon Ohno, planted and dedicated two Ioisugi and 635 Sugi.
However, there are no cedar trees over 200 years old in the precincts. It is believed that it was cut down as a building material in later years.
In addition, it is said that the precincts shrine is a natural monument designated by Itabashi Ward under the name of "Kumano Shrine Forest". The shrine is a valuable natural heritage that retains the remnants of Musashino.
On the right side of the shrine, there is a stone monument entitled "Yoshiyu Fire Fighting Dissolution Memorial Monument". It is dark in the history of firefighting, and even if you read it, questions such as "I do not understand the relationship between the protagonist and the firefighting team" and "I do not know the reason for dissolution when it is merged with Tokyo City" come up one after another.
The dragon spout in the text is probably the one displayed in the votive tablet.
Finally, there is an itabi pagoda in the precincts of the Shokonsha side. Are there five in all (two are fragments)?
right hand. Chop Amitabha triad seeds. Inscription of Takeyuki May, 1st year of Meiō. Inscribed as "Lawyer".
Center. Amitabha triad seeds are engraved. Inscription of Takeyuki July, 6th year of Daiei. Inscribed as "Gondai Monk Toeison". It is said that it was excavated in the Taisho era on the side.
left hand. Inscription of Takeyuki in February, 13th year of Eisho. It is engraved with "Ahn Yu-jin", "Ahn Yu-jin", "Ahn Yu-jin", and "Middle secret so-called Pagoda".

Located on the site of Shimura Castle, the Gaudi-style building is a kindergarten, opposite a new nursery school, next to an elementary school, and a junior high school nearby. In addition, there is the former Shimura government office site next to it, and it is a place where you can see that it is a central area at any time.

I was hoping for what was going on, and aimed at Shimura Castle, which appeared on the map of my smartphone on a random basis.
If you climb the steep slope of Shimura Shiroyama Park, you will see Shiroyama Kumano Shrine at the top. With this route, you will be visiting from the side street instead of from the front.
It seems that the Shimura Castle that I was aiming for was Mr. Shimura's castle in the area of the current Shiroyama Kumano Shrine, Shimura Elementary School, and Shimura Shiroyama Park. Later, Nobutaka Chiba of the Musashi Chiba clan rebuilt the castle on a large scale as a branch of Akatsuka Castle, but it was attacked by the Hojo clan and fell under the control of Gohojo. It seems that the castle was abandoned when he was destroyed.
The official name of the shrine is Kumano Shrine, but it is called Shiroyama Kumano Shrine or Shimura Kumano Shrine for the sake of distinction.
It is an old shrine that was solicited by Kumano Gongen during the Heian period.
On the right side of the shrine, there was a magnificent votive tablet that was rebuilt and reused from the old worship hall from the middle to late Edo period. It is said that the precious votive tablets and biane that are stuck on the walls and ceiling are designated as tangible folk cultural properties of Itabashi Ward as valuable materials.
The old main shrine, which was rebuilt in 1900, still remains as a shōkonsha, and I happened to visit it, but it was a very spectacular shrine. It is said that they have been worshiped since ancient times as a god of evil that will pay for disasters.
The stone monument engraved with the Sanskrit character seems to be quite old. I found the torii and the stone monument of Shimura Castle on my way home.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A lovely and traditional temple
Small but very calm and peaceful temple.
The trees surrounding the building make you forget that you're still in Tokyo !
If you like traditional Japanese places, this one is made for you !
