Shin-chang - Shinjuku City

This is a korean fried chicken place in Tokyo's korean town. This restaurant is so popular that they have expanded by adding another restaurant directly across the street from them. The wait people run between the 2 places to drop off food and take orders from both places. Geesh... Talk about getting enough exercise... As soon as you arrive, get a reservation ticket for your group. You don't need to stand in line, but be within hearing distance. Your number will be called and you can see your number presented in digital on the window above the ticket reservation area. When u r ready to order or need help, ring the button on the table. The servers come pretty fast. The food was tasty. I ordered 1/2 order of regular fried chicken and 1/2 order of the soy garlic. The soy garlic wasn't spicy and was tastier. You won't get numerous banchans like other korean rest. However, you r given a cabbage salad and pickled daikon. They were both crunchy and delicious. I'll come if there isn't a wait and during lunch. Oh yeah, they accept credit cards.. I'll give this place 3 1/2 stars.

We came around 2:40 PM on a weekend and there was still a slight wait (around 10 minutes) to get a table. When we were sat, they had 2 banchan ready on the table for us - a cabbage salad and pickled daikon. Unfortunately, they do not have an English menu but if you go on their website, you can access a translated version of their menu. I didn't know about this beforehand so I just used Google Translate which worked out fine. If you're not picky, you can also just base what to order on the pictures. Food didn't take too long and it was honestly really good. I was worried while we were waiting because I had read some Google reviews that stated they had received bad service. Thankfully, our food was delicious and service was fine - the server even let us know that we get 1 free drink each because we would be spending over ¥950 each. The charcoal pork was very flavorful and definitely a must-get. I got their garlic soy sauce fried chicken and it was amazing. The chicken was crispy even though it was coated in sauce. Even the pieces on the bottom was crispy even though some time had passed from the time I received the chicken to when I actually ate it. The chicken portions pictured are their half sizes. We got 3 dishes between 2 people and that was definitely enough because we had to takeout a good bit of leftovers. If you're wanting to try out different flavors the half size portions are great. If you're coming here with a large group of people, definitely make a reservation or go during their off times. If you're wanting to take a chance on eating here, be sure to sign up on their wait list on the iPad right in front of their main restaurant. As a side note, they take credit cards and offer takeout options.

This place was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The fried chicken is really delicious, and to be honest, quite cheap for how much you get. The sides are good too, with an array of different things to choose from. Went early on a weekday and it was nice pretty crowded. If you’re in the mood for some fried goodness, definitely check this place out.

When I first visited, I bought yangnyeom chicken and soy sauce chicken for take out. The price was very affordable, I ordered 2 boxes. It was so good that I vowed to come back to dine at the restaurant in my next visit. I was able to realize it this week. I was craving for korean food after watching Youn’s Kitchen and Shin-chan came to mind. Because of the pandemic, I was hesitant but I decided to visit during off peak hours. I initially wanted to have chapchae but it wasn’t available so I had bibimbap in exchange, paired with soy sauce chicken. The bibimbap was okay, it was too sour for me at some point because they placed a lot of kimchi in the bowl. As for the chicken, it’s perfect! I love the seasoning and the crisp. So good! I had chicken leftover and they packed it for take out. Will definitely come back! I just wish they were on UberEats so I can just order whenever I want to. They have delivery service but it’s limited to areas near the store.

First time trying Korean fried chicken here. It was pretty good! They have a selection of grilled chicken / fried chicken, and you can choose to have boneless or with bone. My favourite was the boneless fried chicken! However, beware when you order 超激辛(chō geki kara - super spicy) it is really spicy (unlike the "spicy" in other Japanese restaurant)

Great food. Great taste. Great time (With friends) This was my second time going to this restaurant. The first time, the wait was tormenting (waited outside for about an hour or so) but once we got inside, it was worth the wait. The chicken was crunchy. The flavor was tasteful and the spice was tremendous. The second time I introduced some friends to Shin chan and they also loved the restaurant. We tried the spiciest food, the rice, and it was as spicy as rubbing a habenero pepper in your eye. Still a great time.

Was delicious but beware the spicy chicken unless you like pain. The restaurant atmosphere is great with wall divided seating so it is easy to relax and talk. I really like the atmosphere more than any other chicken place in shinjuku/shinokubo.
