T	Tobias Montague on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The definition of a Japanese dining and drinking experience. You come in, you realize the place is very small but very social. When we were there (after visiting the Osaka Aquarium), there were no tourists present at all. There is a basic English menu available, and the couple running the place sits you down and let's you feel welcome. The man is at the grill at the center and everyone sits around him. The food is delicious and takes westerners to their limits for sure, but in a good way; heavily sea-food centered, but you should try vegetables, too! (We had absolutely stunningly grilled eggplants). We had the luck to have the sympathies of an elderly Japanese, drunk and very social man who invited us to some sea food dishes. As a thank you, we bought him and his friends their beer and they were extremely happy.

But keep in mind that they speak no english and only have a limited english menu. Bring someone or something to help you translate :)

You can also point to all the fresh seafood offerings for your order. Cash only but ATM’s are nearby. Very authentic and worth passing up the old food on the ship. Eat here!

L	Liz Sweigart on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A neighborhood gem. Diners sit at a bar that wraps around the open kitchen where an older gentlemen prepares and cooks all of the food in front of you. Get a spot where you can see his cutting board and you’ll get a bonus knife-skills class. There is a rudimentary English menu, but otherwise you are at the mercy of whichever clientèle is in that night. We did a lot of pointing and asking what others were ordering in our broken Japanese. That said, the food was very good. Fresh and simply prepared fish, chicken, beef, seafood, tofu, and vegetables. The stir-fried veggies are delicious. If you are adventurous, the grilled whole fish are excellent, as are the grilled shellfish and other seafood. This is the place for simply grilled seafood. Try the sweet corn—it is amazing right off the grill. If you are an English speaker without much Japanese, go with an open mind and empty stomach. You’ll make new friends and have a great meal in a truly authentic izakaya setting.
