樹高4メートル、周囲33メートル、県下で最古の大茶樹とされています。毎年、足場を組んで新茶が手摘みされ、生葉で約15キロの収量があるそうで、過去の調査でも香り等優秀な品種であると認められているそうです。
It is said that the ancestors of the Hiraguchi family in Setonoya planted seeds around 1700 AD.
The height is 4 meters and the circumference is 33 meters. It is said to be the oldest large tea tree in the prefecture. Every year, scaffolding is used to pick up new tea by hand, yielding about 15 kg of fresh leaves, and past research has confirmed that it is an excellent variety with aroma.

①この自然仕立ての大茶樹は実生(種)を蒔いて出てきた幾本ものチャがまとまって一本の茶樹を形成したもの
②戦時前後はこのまわりにも大茶樹が何本もあったそうですが、戦時前後の食糧事情の悪さから自然仕立ての茶樹を引き抜き、さつまいもを植えたようです。
③その中で一本だけやたら樹勢が強かったので残したものが今日の藤枝大茶樹、とのこと。
④余談ですが、この辺りの人は昔、買い物などに行くとき、東の蔵田に行くのでなく、南の山を超え、滝之谷に行っていた(こっちの方が自転車がきいた)
……歴史がありますね。感動しました。地元の方に看板には現れない情報を聞けることほど嬉しいものは無いですね。
話は長くなりますが、藤枝の大茶樹は県道220号蔵田島田線沿いにあります。
島田から来る道中はなかなかの狭さです。離合が難しいどころか不可能なポイントが多くドキドキします。路肩はガードレールではなくデリニエーター(黄色い反射材のついたポール)が設置してますので険道らしさを醸し出しております。ここにバスが通るのはにわかに信じられません。運転にはくれぐれも気をつけてください。駐車場も軽自動車が一台停められるくらいのものしかありません。

It's a long story, but Fujieda's large tea plant is located along Prefectural Road 220 Kurata Shimada Line.
The road from Shimada is quite narrow. I'm thrilled that there are many points that are impossible, let alone difficult to separate. The road shoulder is not a guardrail but a delineator (a pole with a yellow reflector), so it has a steep road feel. It's hard to believe that the bus goes here. Please be careful when driving. There is only one parking lot where one light car can be parked.
