★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 昭和20年8月2日の大空襲で水戸が焼け野原になったとき、この銀杏の木も焼夷弾を浴びて黒焦げになりました。誰もが枯れたと思ったそうです。しかし、やがて新しい芽が生え、多くの市民に感動を与えました。
水戸の戦後復興のシンボルであり、平和の象徴でもありました。HP参照
When Mito became a burning field by the air raid on August 2, 1945, this ginkgo tree was also burned by incendiary bombs. It seems that everyone thought they were dead. However, new buds sprung up and impressed many citizens.
It was a symbol of postwar reconstruction of Mito and a symbol of peace. HP reference

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ これまで意識してきませんでしたが立派な銀杏だったんですね。水戸空襲で大火傷を負ったけど復活した生命力の逞しい銀杏だったとは知りませんでした。単なる街路樹だと思ってました。
I haven't been conscious of it so far, but it was a fine ginkgo. I didn't know that Ginko was born with great vitality but was resurrected. I thought it was just a street tree.
