★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful old school Japanese hotel on a stunning location. Right in their back allay that has a mountain passage with breath taking sceneries and spots to swim. I wish I stayed longer on this underrated spot

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed the night and enjoyed the true authentic Japanese experience. We had a marvelous Japanese style dinner and breakfast, accompanied by the renowned hospitality. We even received a special gift from the hostess: she sang a song about the Sandankyo Gorge! We slept in a futon in a room where the gentle melody of the river outside guides you to your dreams. This was after a completely relaxing visit to the warm water bath 'onsen' right there in the hotel. Don't forget to put an extra mat under your futon! You'll never forget or regret staying at this hotel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The stay was great here. We arrived at 5pm, check in was fast and easy. We had time to relax in the room and have some tea and a treat provided by the staff that was waiting for us in the room. Then used the bath to warm up and refresh from our journey. The bath was hot and clean enough. When it was time for dinner we ate a wonderful meal, traditional Japanese style. This was one of the best meals of our stay in Japan, so many different dishes and they were all yummy. Our bed was made for us when we were eating dinner. The view from the room was also great, looking over the river. When we were falling asleep, listening to the running water of the river it was so peaceful. In the morning we also had a great breakfast, it was hot and yummy. Our bed was taken down when we ate breakfast.
The host was incredibly accommodating and helpful, ensuring that we arrived at our bus stop in time by personally driving us there since it was snowing.
If we come back to this area we will be staying here again. The room was so cute. The view was great. The food was amazing. And all of this at a very great price.
