讃岐の島々では四国八十八ヶ所巡礼になかなか行けないので島内にミニ八十八ヶ所霊場を造りお詣りしていたようです。ここ瀬居島も同様で八十八ヶ所霊場を造り旧暦三月ニ十八日（現在四月ニ十九日）に行なわれれる通称「お大師市」と呼ばれています。瀬居島は備讃瀬戸のほぼ中央ゾーンに位置し風光明媚なことで知られ町内の八十八ヶ所を全て回るのに数時間で結願できます。ここ瀬居元浦、西浦大使堂が起点に成り行なわれています。本浦三箇所、西浦三箇所、北浦、竹浦各一箇所、計八箇所にて御接待が行なわれています。寛政五年（1793年）に島内を二分した訴訟があり、その戦いに勝つよう祈念し勝訴したお礼に四国八十八ヶ所霊場が写されたと云われています。

坂出市立瀬居中学校正門前にある。近くに瀬居八幡神社もあるので、場所はわかりやすいでしょうか。ご本尊のうちのお一人は不動明王。お賽銭だけなら、本堂内陣に入らなくても、外から立って拝めば良い。なお、瀬居町には、ここの本浦大師堂とはまったく別個に西浦大師堂が瀬居町西浦の小学校の上にあり、両方とも小さいお堂だが、比較的に言えば西浦大師堂の方が大きい。
