★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 住宅街にぽつんとあるが、昔はここが馬や馬車が行き交う街道筋だったのでしょう。地図を見ると、この道沿いで急死した馬の供養として祀られたもののような感じがします。（由来は定かではないそうです）
馬頭観音は六観音の一つで、家畜の安全と健康を祈ったり、旅の道中を守る観音様として信仰されていたようです。馬は武家にも農民にも生活から切り離せない存在でしたから、馬が急死した路傍や芝先（馬捨場）などに馬頭観音が多く祀られ、動物への供養塔としての意味合いが強かったようです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この辺りが集落の入口だったのでしょうか。往来で行き倒れてしまった荷役の馬を弔った場所と思われます。
今は、車通りしかありませんが、今も大事に残されているようです。
