Originally, it is a Buddhist temple dedicated to the statue of the four heavenly kings who pledged to be the Emperor Kameyama, which was the beginning of the founding of Saidaiji Temple. The eleven-faced Kannon statue is a work of the late Heian period and is a nationally designated important cultural property. The statue of the four heavenly kings was originally made at the request of Emperor Koken, but only the evil demons at his feet exist. The statues of Mochikokuten, Zhouchoten, and Hirometen are made of copper, which is presumed to be made in the Kamakura period, and the statue of Tamonten is made of wood, which is presumed to be made in the Muromachi period.
